Requests & Commissions

Requests

Requests are free!

A request is anything that's kinda vague, like asking for more thread trackers or a muselist with dropdown elements. Something that you want made publicly available and wouldn't be a big project for me.

Requests are prioritized beneath something I'm already working on and commissions. Essentially, I'll get to it when I can, but I will get to it.

If you want a biosheet, layout, something personalized, or something only you can use, then it would be a commission.

Commissions

I take all commission payments through my PayPal. You can also consider joining the Patreon for exclusive content or checking out my Ko-Fi Shop for previously exclusive codes!

General Codes $3: Navigations, muselists, playlists, etc.

Personalized Biosheets $15: Images of your character/PB will be included.
Extras:
Text (history, personality, etc.)
Playlist Songs
Visual Images
+$3 each
Meaning if you want me to come up with songs for a playlist on your biosheet, the whole thing would be $18.
Journal Layouts $45: Includes icon page, tag page, archive, and mobile friendliness.
Editing Existing Layouts $30: If you want something that's already around personalized for your purposes.
Plurk Layouts $50: Can include animated effects, specialized dash, dark mode appearance, etc. The Chrome extension Plurk Jailbreak is recommended to make the layout look as intended but is not necessary.

Game Info Pages $80: Includes navigation, premise, rules/faq, applications, reserves, hiatus/drop, event templates, mod comment templates, taken, player contact, locations/businesses/employment, abilities/traits, profiles, advertisements, and anything else that your game may need. If you only need certain pages overhauled and not the whole package, we can work out a price on a case-by-case basis.

Larger Commissions $90+: Game apps, websites, front-end UI/UX design, back-end database setups, etc etc. Price varies based on a case by case basis and I give no guarantees that I'll take your commission. But if you have an idea of something you want to get done beyond the scope of DreamWidth, I can probably help you. Largely depends on my skillset and free time. If you want examples of the things I do, check out my GitHub.

Hello! I’m not sure if you have time for commissions right now, but I thought I’d check! I’m looking for something for a writing comm I co-mod, [community profile] writetomyheart. It’s currently using the same theme as its LiveJournal counterpart, so a layout that takes cues from the current styling and colours but is mobile friendly and takes advantage of Dreamwidth modules (I’m particularly interested in the “recent active entries”, search, and cut tag control modules on a style like Brittle) would be fabulous. I also really like the way you have special pinned posts so that one can function as a replacement navigation bar (while still keeping the native one visible, maybe hooked to the footer?) and one can be static information. Navigation would possibly be our social media links, while the static post could maybe be a block with sections for sign ups, the new posting order announcement, and rules/guidelines, so I’m not sure if that makes more sense as three separate pinned posts? Or some kind of navigation code?

Either way, this is a bit of a bigger project (with according price) so I understand if you don’t have time right now! I just wanted to check. (But if you happen to be more interested, an html layout/styles for a neocities landing page or a carrd pro page and a rules/guidelines page would be nice to coordinate too.)

Thank you! I think $140 ish as an estimate sounds great, and there’s no particular rush so hopefully that helps!

Would it maybe make more sense to take it in sections? I mentioned all of the pieces so there’s a sense of the scope, but the Dreamwidth is probably the most concrete so maybe starting with that would also allow the estimate for the unfamiliar portions to adjust accordingly (I totally understand if it would ge more).

And I wanted to reply with more but I’m running late! My apologies; I’ll reply more later.

Hi, I’m so sorry, I didn’t get either of your comment notifications!! Things have been busy so I was going to check back here later (our round is in a check in/reshuffle period). I’m still absolutely committed to this. I’ll look at this this evening, but in the meantime do you still prefer ko-fi? (Again, I’m so sorry!
Edit: at a quick glance on mobile the layout is gorgeous!

Okay! I have had a chance to take a look on desktop too. I'm not sure if you prefer messages rather than comments, so let me know at any point!

notes
- would it be possible to make the text of entries a little more vertically-spaced?
- the font of the tags and action links ("reply" etc.) is a little hard to read with the bold weight; I'm not sure if it's my computer/browser combination (I'm on Windows, Firefox). Since they're isn't really a medium bold (or is there?) I'm not sure if increasing the letter spacing or making it a normal weight would be options? (I defer to your design perspectives!)

Okay so for the two above in blockquote; I was working off desktop view, Firefox (no extensions implemented) on Windows. But then I went back and checked my phone (iOS Safari) and either of these were issues. I'm so puzzled! This is what the tags and entry text look like on my computer:

- in mobile view, I'm not sure where the sidebars would display - could it be at the bottom and top?
- I'm guessing that it's hard to style the search field since that belongs to a paid journal; is there any way to know what that would look like?

this is absolutely just a thrown out idea, but do you know if Dreamwidth supports @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)? (for example this simple website style https://github.com/cadars/john-doe/blob/main/style.css) if it does, I realize this would be an added cost to implement!

That's all I have at this stage (before getting into pinned post navigation code etc.)!

Also, to finally repond to your first reply properly, on further reflection, I think Neocities would make more sense as it would be more flexible and allow for extra pages, etc., and not be locked in as much. I'm primarily thinking of being able to put the community rules there, on a page, rather than using a craft document for that. Carrd uses a lot of anchors and targets with css, and I previously found this html & style pairing that's a similar structure, in case that's of interest https://github.com/cadars/john-doe All to say, I understand that neocities will take longer!

Also, picking back up on payment, I'm happy to pay in sections, or pay the estimated $140 now and any addition time/work (such as neocities taking longer) at the end, or whatever you prefer! Just let me know.

And again, I'm very sorry that I didn't see your comment replies (Dreamwidth has done this to me one time before and not given me any notifications for replies to something); I absolutely wasn't intending to disregard your time and work!

Thanks for understanding! DW is usually so good to me so I don't double-check as much as I probably should.
I sent 50 by PayPal for the quasi-first step, so hopefully you received it!
I'm sorry that Firefox is being a pest. It think the vertical line spacing is a Firefox issue as well, unfortunately.
I have some extra DW points; if that would be helpful for testing those two elements, I'd be happy to send them over (just let me know).
If dark mode does work, I was wondering if a light purple & dark grey or something like that would look good, in your opinion? Very open to suggestion here!
For Neocities, sounds good! Generally-speaking, I was thinking of an html layout/skeleton & a css file so that additional pages (well, really just the rules page at this point) can use the same css. I'm not sure if it could borrow some from the Dreamwidth layout in terms of styling?

Thanks again!

Thanks for confirming receipt! I now sent 90 so that should equal the tentative 140 quote with what I sent earlier; so maybe when we're closer to done you'll know the final amount? (However you prefer to handle it is good with me!)

The line spacing looks good on Firefox now, and still looks good on mobile too! The font size is a little small on my desktop though, so I think the bigger size might work better.

The only thing I noticed is that the top navigation wraps oddly on iOS Safari so I'm not sure why it's doing that.

That is really strange about the search module; I didn't realize that. I'm sorry that it was so inconvenient! The preview of the search code looks great though.

That's too bad about the prefers-color-scheme but I'm not surprised to hear that; too bad! Yes, I think it would still be nice for the main site, especially since the rules will probablly be linked directly from Discord too, so some people might already have night mode on there. And I'm glad that layout attributes can be carried over to the website; having a theme that's connected in terms of style would be really great!

So, all to say this looks really great, and I just have the note about the mobile navigation and the bigger font size. And again, please take your time!

Oh, I meant to also add that on iOS the little blue buttons in the control strip (log out and go) are absolutely adorable; I think they look lovely!

With it being new territory for me, I'm not sure about the price upfront, and I'm sorry about that.
That’s completely understandable! Maybe other people will be interested in something like this in the future, and so the timing of working on this could be helpful. (As always, I’m very happy if you’d like to share any of this work if that’s something you’d like to do.)

The layout looks great! Very exciting ☆彡

Thanks again!

I'm sorry about the late reply! Sounds good. I'm glad that neocities seems good to work with; I've found it pretty nice so far. I think that having something set up like the framework and width of the dw layout might be nice, so
- the background and "box" of content
- the same shift from desktop width to mobile width
- probably the same header and body text styling?
- I'd thought of maybe going in the direction of pinky reds or purples for dark mode as well, but I'm not 100% on colour theory!
- I think single column would be fine, because a simple site seems to make the most sense.
- for basic navigation (home page, instructions/rules. link to sign up, check in/out, and posting order? - down the line we might make the sign up/check-in/out and posting orders pages?) would copying the little rectangles from the dreamwidth navigation make sense? Or is there a better approach?
- the one downside to neocities over carrd is that you have to bring your own social icons - any chance you could help with the social icons we currently use on the carrd? https://shiritori.carrd.co/
- for the home page, I'll aspirationally put the "history" stuff on fanlore, so that page won't have much on it (in case that makes a difference for styling/layout decisions) but I'll probably add a "quickstart" guide to the home page as a kind of about
- the rules, on the other hand, are pretty long (https://zoos-take-r6p.craft.me/Yr3FY98laTpb9j) so a long page should probably look okay too (I'll probably add a table of contents at the top and use anchor links)
- I'd mentioned a code layout and static post (conceptually like what you have on this community) for the dreamwidth and then forgot to pick up on it again - is it possible to do something that will be a grid of 2 by 2 on desktop but flex or somthing so that it's 1 by 4 (so, vertical column) on mobile? Also, I'm not sure --it's probably best to just have those be litle blurbs and links to full posts (or even tags, like we currently have in the sidebar), rather than having the information there (?) - especially since it would be too long. I'm probably not making much sense - would it be helpful if I drew it or found a similar concept on dreamcodes?

Thank you as always!

Sorry about the delayed response! Thanks again for the layout edits; everything is looking so great as I said! Still such a joy :D

for the static post: Thank you for your questions! I took some time to look at different examples (part of the delay; I'm sorry!) so I have a better idea of what I was thinking about.
-I realized that we'd only need three "elements" but it would be great to have them go from three in a row landscape on desktop (if that fits?) to three in a column on mobile, and after looking at some dreamcodes pages it seems like flex does allow for that, so that would be really neat!
- For what we need to present, it would be a reshuffle and sign ups element (which I might toggle between just sign ups & reshuffle and sign ups, but that would be on me), a posting order element, and a rules" element. (I've linked to our relevant tag on the community.) The images I've used on the posts would maybe be too large, so if that's the case I would re-edit them to size/dimension once that's set.
- I like the collapsible element of your [50] Dropdown Navigation, and the way the click-elements on PEEPERS, a collapsing muse list code (via dreamcodes) are images. What I tentatively envisioned was an image for each of the three elements, with code styling in a manner that complements the dreamwidth community layout. When clicked, each element would expand to provide a small blurb and link. So, in the case of the rules, the amount of text (just to roughly determine what would look good) would be what the dreamwidth profile bio has + a little bit) and a link to the full rules page on neocities. For reshuffle and sign ups, a little blurb and links to both forms. For posting order, a little blurb and links to the team list and sonic list.
- It would be nice if the links in the exanded blurb could be styles so they're more "button-like" if that makes sense.
- for styling, the way there's a frame around the userpics on the dreamwidth layout, and the way iOS has cute blue buttons for log in and search in the dw site nav might be helpful starting design elements? but if you've thought of something else I'd be very glad to see that!
Bringing it all around, is that something that would be feasible for the static post?

back to neocities:
- dark mode: reds/purples sounds great!
- nav: I could duplicate the links at the top of the layout easily, yes. However, with it being so many links, we might want to stretch the navigation across the page more, like a bar or something. I'm good with whichever seems better!
- icons: the simple icons look great! for dreamwidth, depending on the colour-scheme I could do a transparent icon that we could just host, or I'm not sure if it's possible to copy the svg from carrd (https://shiritori.carrd.co/) Or a subsitution of course! (the abbot logo looks surprisingly like a d, or the swirl of the dreamstime is a bit reminiscent)
- content lengths: sounds good! a floating top of page would be really nice.

thank you again! (And please let me know if/when we exceed the initual quote, as I know this is a lot of work!)

So sorry about the late response! It's been a Week.

As for the initial quote, I do think it's going over that, yeah. I'll let you know as soon as I can about the increase.
Absolutely understandable!

I think I've gotten a little confused about the sticky post too as we've gone along; so many juggling balls in the air! Despite my late reply, I've been thinking a bit these past few days to get it all sorted, and I wonder if it would be possible to do a sticky post (like what you linked in your comment) - maybe with the same kind of simple outline as the layout and/or the userpic frames?

Separate from that, I realized that I was thinking of a custom code, as I described in my comment above. However, I realize that I didn't explain that properly in the original ask, so (apart from the neocities extra work/hours of course), I realize this would be an extra cost! In thinking about this, I'd like to put the custom code in the sticky post, but I understand those are different things. Would it be helpful if I sketched the custom code?

As for the neocities, it looks great! (And familiar is perfect :D )

I think the length of the navigation bar on the top may be fine as is, but I'll see how it looks after we add the correct links to it.
Makes sense!

About the sidebar, I'm not quite sure. I think, mobile-adapting-wise, it might be easier to not have a sidebar, but what do you recommend? Social media links would definitely work in a footer!

[personal profile] bluedreaming 2024-05-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! Now I really have to apologize for being late (I've been under the weather, unfortunately).

A snippet to add onto the code sounds good! It took me longer to reply because I tried to mock something up in figma and realized that was a bad idea (it was taking me way too long) so I did something up in sketches; I hope it makes sense?
I had two ideas: idea one would be if the pinned post could stretch across the top maybe:

If not, it could just be inline with the other posts:

Either way, maybe a double line border or light blue background or something harmonious with the layout could distinguish it?

Of course, on mobile, it would probably look the same either way (primary sidebar stuff, pinned post, other posts, then secondary sidebar stuff).

For the code snippet, I think (?) it's possible to have floating divs be side by side in desktop, then tile on mobile, based on the code examples I linked earlier, but I'm not a pro at inline css so if it's not please let me know! I'd described the code in a previous comment but the rough layout idea is:
mobile:
desktop:

On to the website, we pretty much just have social links and maybe a link to team order lists, so I think you're right about keeping it more streamlined. An option tool sounds good though, as we might end up needing it later.

I realize that you may have (likely) moved onto other things in the meantime so whenever you have time! Also, please let me know when we've exceeded the $140 and what I should top up, with the website developing and how I didn't explain about the pinned post and post code.
